Peace be with you.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. Please know how blessed all your children are by you. I pray for our Moms today, both those still with us and those who have died. My prayer for you is the following…
God of tenderness, we honor all women who cooperate with you in bringing life to the world, and we remember especially those mothers who have passed from this life and now rest in eternal life with you. We offer gratitude for the gift of their lives and for the ways they blessed their children with life and love. Trusting in your deep love and providential care, we ask you to bring comfort and peace to all children, young or old, who mourn the loss of a mother. May your own mother, Mary, watch over these children and guide them with her tender care. Amen.
As part of my blessing which I will offer at the end of Mass, I pray that all your sons and daughters will have “a spirit of profound respect” for you. I generally joke that this means you should be able to get a nap today. However, let’s all admit that we’ve probably, at one point or another, not been respectful of the kindness of our mothers and tested their patience, even if it was when we were a testy teenager for whom everything was the worst. Today is a good day to do something nice to show how much you respect your Mom.
