Friends
Peace be with you.
A lot of organizations for which I have a deep affinity have chosen April to seek new membership and/or support. It began last week when Doug Kaiser, Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council 909, was in the back of our church inviting men 18 years and older to be a part of the Knights of Columbus. I am the chaplain for that council and a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, meaning I believe in the importance of this organization because of its fraternal support of faith and service.
Next week, the Catholic Daughters will be handing out life savers in recognition of Domestic Abuse Prevention Month. We will be taking a second collection to support them in this manner. However, like the Knights of Columbus, I’m sure the Catholic Daughters are also looking for women 18 years and older to join their organization. If you’re interested, please talk to Jan Casey who will be handing out the life savers after Mass.
Once-a-year, we are asked by Metro Catholic Outreach (MCO) to make a special effort to support them and April happens to be our month. I want to thank Geralyn and the Faith Formation people for helping us to start this by doing a lenten service project providing all that was necessary to fill bags for homeless people. In April, we hope to focus more on cleaning products. Here’s the most recent list of needs..
Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Dog Food, Laundry Pods ,Soap, Lip Balm, Toilet Paper, Deodorant, Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Wet Wipes, Body Lotion, Throat Lozenges
Lastly, we are beginning the process of nominating Pastoral Council Members. We are seeking three people who are willing to provide a vision for how our parish can fulfill its mission “God unveils the sacred through sacraments; we, as Catholics in the heart of our community, cooperate by shepherding seekers to Him.” If you feel you can do this or know someone who can, please nominate yourself or that person for the ballot to be held on the second Sunday of May. And please pray for St. Patrick’s Parish that the right visionary leaders step forward to help me in shepherding this parish.
