In the last blurb, I offered a reflection on your day-of pilgrimage to the church for Mass. I think that’s a great start, but what if we pushed harder and did more? Another easy way to prepare, specifically for Sunday Mass, is to spend time with the readings for the upcoming week. Through thoughtful and prayerful readings of the Scripture set aside for the upcoming week, we can more fully prepare to welcome the Word into our hearts while sitting in the pew listening to the readings proclaimed. What are some resources to access these ahead of time? USCCB.org has a link to “Daily Readings” right at the top of their homepage where you can fast-forward and take a look at the upcoming weekend’s readings (you can also scan the QR Code above to get there as well). I also highly recommend the Every Sacred Sunday Mass Journals. These offer the readings for every Sunday and Solemnity in a given Liturgical Year as well as space to reflect and journal on each set of readings and a place to take notes during the Homily. These simple tools, and even just 30 minutes of time with the readings in the week leading up to Mass can do so much for our relationship with the Word.
