Edmund Gibbs, 80 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy surrounded by his family. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at St. Patrick Church by Rev. Dennis Miller. Burial: Mount Calvary. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 19 at St. Patrick’s from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 4p.m., and on Wednesday at the church after 10 a.m. Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Edmund and his family.
Edmund is survived by his wife Karen of 59 years, three children; Randy (Shawn) Gibbs, Rick (Sara) Gibbs, and Kelly (John) Fulton; grandchildren, Curt (Amanda), Alexis, Hannah, and Katelyn Gibbs, Jacob (Kailey), and Justin Fulton; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brady and Jackson; brothers, Harold (Joyce), Larry and Steve (Mary) Gibbs; in-laws, Don (Harolyn), Loren (Madonna), Greg (Patty) Bormann, Phyllis Duhme, Irma Gibbs, and Janice Bormann.
Edmund was preceded in death by his siblings; Lloyd (Rosela), Donald, Dorothy (Clifford) Weinschenk, Mary (Larry) Cheney, Algean (Eldred) Budde; in-laws, Victor (Katherine), Lester, Allen (Ruth) Bormann, Carolyn Gibbs, nieces and nephews.
Edmund was born on October 19, 1943, son of Edmund Sr. and Gertude (Entringer) Gibbs, in La Motte, Iowa. He graduated from Marquette High School in Bellevue, Iowa in 1961. He married the love of his life Karen Bormann on October 17, 1964, in Preston, Iowa. Edmund worked as an electrician most of his life, 44 years with E&S/ESCO Electric. After retirement he worked with the “Old Farts” Electricians until his death.
Edmund was a member of the IBEW Local 405 Union for 52 years, and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
