Ismael “Mike” Dominique Martinez, 47, of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center, after an upper respiratory illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30, Tuesday, February 25, 2025, St. Patrick Catholic Church, by Rev. Dennis Miller. A Vigil Service will be held on Monday at 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Those not wishing to attend the Vigil Service can visit with the family from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and on Tuesday at the church after 9:30 a.m.
Mike is survived by his parents, Ismael “Mike” and Cheryl Martinez of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Rina (Eric) Bates of Galva, IL and Rosy (Jeremiah) White of Cedar Rapids; his favorite nephews and nieces: Dominic, Josephine and Oliver White of Cedar Rapids, and Victoria and Elaina Bates of Galva; girlfriend, Tracie Graham; his loyal dog, Oscar; many aunts, uncles and cousins, including those he considered siblings: Rafael, Elizabeth, Edy, Manny and Omar; and his former wife, Nicole Derby.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Abraham and Beatriz Martinez, and Jim and Sally Rife; special grandma Esperanza, his uncles and aunts: Manuel and Teresa, Senorina, Ramiro, Fidelina, Mary, and Tamara; and his beloved dog Luca.
Mike was born on February 21, 1977, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ismael “Mike” and Cheryl Rife Martinez. He attended St. Patrick Elementary School and graduated in 1995 from La Salle High School. Mike also attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa. He worked in logistics for Rinker Materials.
Michael was a friend to everyone he met. He was known for his wicked sense of humor, his caring nature and love of animals, and his creativity. He was a musician for as long as he could hold a drumstick. He was always a hard-worker, and loved spending time with his family.
