Friends
Peace be with you.
I have an announcement that may come as a bit of a shock to some of you. After Monday June 26th, we will be suspending our weekly Monday night Bingo games. We will not be having Bingo in July or August for sure and, most likely, for at least a year. I say suspending because it may come back and it may not.
The reason for this suspension is that I believe the role of the pastor, in consultation with the pastoral council, is to set forth a vision and then make goals surrounding that vision. I believe all the programming that the staff and the various committees plan and carry out should be guided by that vision and those goals. That’s what I intend to do with the members of the pastoral council, staff, faith formation commission, and any other committee member who wants to show up on June 10 from 9:00am-12:00pm: to spend three hours developing a vision and some goals that will guide and direct us in deciding what events we feel will truly keep us focused on that vision and those goals. I will update you the weekend after this happens on what happened on that day.
I want to make it clear that the decision to suspend Bingo falls squarely on my shoulders. Cindy, our recently-retired, hard working director of Bingo for the last several years, was more than willing to continue but I asked her to discontinue it at the end of the fiscal year for the reasons stated above. For her and all of you who volunteered to make Bingo a success these past several years, Thank you! I really do appreciate the sacrifices you have made. For those who will be disappointed to see Bingo taking a hiatus, I’m very sorry and hope you can find other things to do on Mondays. I truly believe that this is the direction we are being called to go right now and I ask for your prayers as we invite the Holy Spirit to guide us in the ways he sees fit.
